Medicare Health Plans

Medicare Advantage (Part C) (external site): Private health plans approved by Medicare that combine your Part A and Part B benefits, often including Part D prescription drug coverage and may include additional benefits not included with Original Medicare.
- - Cannot be combined with Medicare Supplement plans.
Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug Plans) (external site): Stand-alone drug plans that help cover the cost of your prescription medications and are purchased in addition to Original Medicare. You may purchase a Part D plan in addition to Medicare Supplement coverage but not with a Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plan (MAPD)
Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plans: Policies that can be purchased from private insurers and are designed to work alongside Original Medicare to help pay for out-of-pocket costs like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles that Original Medicare doesn't cover.

Marketplace Coverage

Individual & Family Health Plans (external site): For those not yet Medicare-eligible, health insurance plans available through the Health Insurance Marketplace, or state-based exchanges, like Georgia Access are designed for individuals and families who do not have other qualifying health coverage, often with financial assistance available.

Supplemental Coverage

Hospital Indemnity Coverage: Optional coverage that can be purchased which pays a fixed cash benefit directly to you in the event of a covered hospitalization, regardless of any other insurance you may have. These benefits can be used to help cover deductibles, copayments, or other out-of-pocket expenses.
Stand-Alone Dental Plans: Provides coverage for routine dental care, such as cleanings, X-rays, fillings, and often includes benefits for more extensive procedures like crowns or dentures, depending on the plan.
Dental & Vision Plans: Combines the benefits of dental insurance with coverage for routine eye exams, prescription eyeglasses, and contact lenses. Some plans may also offer benefits for vision correction procedures.
Short-Term Health Coverage: Designed to provide temporary, limited medical coverage for a specific period, often used during gaps in other insurance. It is important to note that these plans typically do not cover pre-existing conditions and are not considered minimum essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Supplemental Health policies offer specific benefits and do not provide comprehensive health coverage. Also, many supplemental plans include pre-existing condition limitations, meaning certain health issues you had before enrolling may not be covered immediately or at all. Always check policy details carefully.

Please Note: Once you become eligible for Medicare, you generally cannot purchase a health plan or receive premium tax credits through the Health Insurance Marketplace, and if you're already enrolled in Medicare, you are not eligible for Marketplace coverage.
